The instant I saw Hal's post I realized that I was so hell-bent on comparing scan times for my HD partition that I breezed right past the "DEVICE" (not "device," mind you, but "DEVICE") thing. (See my sig for more.)

(since an error ANYWHERE on the drive can cause it to beachball when accessing ANY partition on the drive)

...which makes you wonder why AHT allows you to scan partitions one-at-a-time?
