Well, the migration from Big Sur to Monterey failed. I've had a Buffalo Trace (or two - I know it's early where you are) so I'm probably finished for the night, but I'm tempted just to go for the Big Sur update on the main startup drive. I know that works.

I don't know if the Monterey update is failing because I'm upgrading an external drive, or it's failing because of other reasons...

I want to know: can I completely recover from a messed up startup drive from a clone of my OS from a bootable external drive? Does it have to be APFS or just Mac journaled?
