I hope that part of the plan is to make sure everything you want to preserve is backed up. I learned the hard way that an OS upgrade, skipping several iterations, can cause an old Mac to give up the ghost, and I lost a few things that were not in the previous backup. Lesson learned: backup
immediately before upgrading the OS!
