To re-enforce what jchuzi said above, just saw this: https://tidbits.com/2021/02/10/ensure-sufficient-free-space-before-upgrading-to-big-sur/ Maybe best to do a clean, fresh installation. Also, if your device is partitioned, make sure the partition onto which you wish to install Big Sur is large enough.
