BEFORE YOU TRY TO DELETE YOUR YAHOO ACCOUNT...
  1. Go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts > Yahoo > Account information
  2. UNcheck the item labeled "Enable this account"
  3. Now you can click the minus sign at the bottom of the list of accounts
Your Yahoo account should now be deleted and you can add it back.
