I use this app, which works very well: Mac DVDRipper Pro. It's $25. Rips can be played with VLC Media Player.

Handbrake is free, but I don't know if it will do what you want. I think it's more for file conversion.

Finally, I use DVD2OneX2 to burn rips to DVD, but it's 32 bit only.
