All new Macs come with Pages and Numbers, a word processor and a spreadsheet, respectively. You can also use a mouse, either by Bluetooth or with a little USB plug-in (a dongle). Check out
VueScan if your scanner is not recognized right away. This software is exemplary at connecting to scanners. Finally, consider a refurbished Mac, purchased through Apple. They come with the same warranty as a new Mac and you can still get Apple Care. Enjoy.
