Afterthought: If so, why would the glitch that's preventing ryck from seeing his server-side messages prevent him from seeing the temporary cache on his own machine?
Because the temporary cache is what Mail see's. It is a safe money bet that if ryck would delete his account that isn't "seeing" the temporary cache and then set the account up once again his mail would miraculously appear complete with all his undeleted past history and any new emails that have come in since this problems started.
I could be wrong, but since he can't see his email now there really isn't anything to lose.
