For what it's worth, I just d/l'ed EtreCheck from MacUpdate, it was a safe d/l with no "additional stuff" accompanying it, and there's no need to worry about the "leaving MU" pop-up.
(There was a splash a few years ago abut MU "encumbering" d/l's, but while I may have experienced it once way back when, it was a unique experience, and I d/l from MU frequently. I'm not even certain that they're still doing it, but as I recall, the encumbrance was clearly marked as an option the last time I saw it.)
