Epson printers - and most of the others, too, in fact - don't work for me because their footprint is too big for the top of my stereo where my printer lives.
My needs are minimal, mostly shipping labels these days, and the current incarnation of the basic Canon I've now got will more than suffice. And as V1 said, the introductory (900 page, whatever a page happens to be) cartridge will probably outlast the machine (as has been the case with my current Canon).
