Many studies are a success when they fail. Data analyses are filled with these kinds of results. For example, the drug under examination failed to be statistically significantly different from the placebo in observed side effects. That failure is a success for the manufacturer of the drug.
Even so, it is contrary to our normal perceptions and experiences—failures in school are generally not a good thing—to associate success with failure.
