That's really weird. In preparation for upgrading to El Capitan, I downloaded the latest Firefox ESR version (5.2.3) a week ago. I just went to "Check for Updates" via About Firefox; the result was: Firefox ESR 52.5.3 (64-bit) Firefox is up to date. You are currently on the esr update channel.
