I also have been to the Canon site and found three quite recent drivers (ICA, CUPS Printer, Scanner) as well as 6 software updates and a firmware update. With the exception of the firmware update, which turned out not to be needed, I installed everything.

I guess the 32 bit aspect accounts for why Roaring Apps still kept the printer's Scanner in "Doesn't Work" and everything else in "Unknown".

Well, the machine has shipped so I guess we'll wait for the delivery truck and see what happens with Apple. This site does say "Your Mac automatically installs third-party software (drivers) for the following printers and scanners" and the OS list is High Sierra, Sierra, El Capitan, Yosemite, and Mavericks.
