Did she check the junk folders on her ISP's server as well as on her Mac?
How do you do that?
You log into your e-mail provider's web site via a browser instead of with an e-mail application like Apple Mail, Thunderbird, etc.
For example, if my e-mail address is myname@att.net, I would go to
www.att.net where I would see some menu option or icon for e-mail. Click on that, log in and the junk/spam folder on the page that follows is what is being referenced in this discussion.
