Clicking in the drop-down's field gave me a cursor, and the default text disappeared as soon as I began typing, and VOILA! (Not especially intuitive. )
Nope, the default text remains there. There is a blinking cursor at the beginning of the default text, but nothing happens when I try to enter text.
