It seems to me the crux of the problem is that you have a President who doesn't know how to think things through. He makes rash (and wrong) decisions, then sends his surrogates out to convince the populace that he isn't a nut case.

Example 1: The ban on refugees. Currently it takes up to 24 months for a refugee to go through the American vetting process and, for Syrians, it's even longer.

Missing thinking: Does anyone in their right mind actually think a terrorist is going to wait for two years or more in a refugee camp on the chance that he might get picked to enter the U.S.? Hardly.

Example 2: Trump threw out the idea that he could put a 20% tariff on Mexican goods entering the U.S. as one way to get payment for his wall.

Missing thinking: Even disregarding the benefits to the U.S. of its trade with Mexico, did anyone stop to think that it's the American consumer who'd end up paying for the tariff?

Example 3: Trump has said that he could make a deal on America's debt and get America's creditors to accept a lower rate of repayment, such as 85 cents for every dollar.

However, according to CNN Money, the top creditor is U.S. citizens and American entities, such as state and local governments, pension funds, mutual funds, and the Federal Reserve. Together they own the vast majority of the debt (65.7%).

Missing thinking: Has anyone wondered if the American citizen would want to take a major hit on their pension payments and IRA savings, or have increased taxes, et cetera?

And that, folks, is what happens when a seven-year-old is President.
