I, like virtually everybody else, never read the EULA. At the risk of Apple suing me, I'll confess to something. Back in April, I downloaded El Cap, copied the installer to a USB stick, and used it to install El Cap on a friend's MBP. I was running El Cap at the time. (OK, coppers, you got me fair and square!)

So, it seems that the EC installer worked on my 2014 iMac as well as her 2011 MBP.
