For all you know he’s always been ‘like that’, gradually rendering his family inured to his antics with little reason to do something about it now, as they haven’t seen (?) the necessity of intervening previously. The main difference may be that he now is strutting (t)his stuff in public, causing all kinds of comments that might make them think again. I wouldn't hold my breath, though.
