In Disk Utility - Select the drive itself not the volume on the drive. The drive will be listed above the volume and the volume will be idented below that.
- An icon will appear at the top of the Disk Utility window labeled Partition
- Click on Partition
- Select 1 partition
- Select GUID Partition Map
- Format: OS X Extended (Journaled)
- Click Apply
