Einstein was a professional and would never have ventured into "seeking to cook up artificial organisms", which is the realm of molecular and cell biology, quite far from his theoretical physics. Besides, his faith story may be complicated, as much as Darwin's. It is amazing for me that nowadays there are quite a few prominent biologists who are true believers. Since religion occupies an important place in many people's minds, an element of faith is definitely present even in the scientific community.
