Thousands of seniors without proper housing, all the children living below the poverty line, and those who can't get timely healthcare, et cetera, didn't make out OK. However you did, so good for you.

Au contraire. In fact, that's the definition of schadenfreude: "pleasure derived by someone from another person's misfortune."
I have a reasonable facility with English and yet I don't see anything in the definition to support your contention that deriving pleasure from another person's misfortune is humourous.
