I'm trying to get a work permit/residency visa, rather than just visit. My partner and I have started a company that's headquartered in Vancouver, but technically I'm not allowed to do any work for the company unless I'm in the US. If I work from the US, Oregon wants a bite out of the company in the form of taxes (there's a state income tax on non-local companies that have a "business presence" in the state).
Yeah, you're pretty much screwed. Your quest is going to take a long time and cost a lot. You might be better off moving to Vancouver, WA; that way OR can't touch you (pun intended).
