AHT is located on the Applications Install Disc 2 and should be included with your computer.... To start AHT on these computers make sure the Applications Install Disc 2 is inserted into the built-in optical drive, external Apple Superdrive.... (Emphasis added)
Your version of OS X has nothing to do with where AHT lives, rather it's a function of how new your Mac is, and yours is not new enough.
