I just inherited an iPhone 4(not sure which model) running iOs 7.2.1, which, according to this Apple doc, is compatible with my AirPort Express 802.11n (1st Generation), but it can't find the network.

All help will be very much appreciated by a complete iPhone neophyte.

Update: It looks like my problem is that I haven't got AirPort Utility installed, so I've got it d/l'ed in iTunes, but it won't install.

Update 2: I think I'm running into trouble because the iPhone is still authorized on my daughter's Mac.

Update 3: I need an internet connection to restore; is there any way to get one without having AirPort Utility on the iPhone? (Do I need to d/l AU from my daughter's account to get it to install?)
