Thank you for your suggestion.
I had an account with Evernote and had worked up enough enthusiasm to use it for most things, that was until an Apple Store update wiped everything and I was not able to restore it without help. After waiting for weeks without any response from Evernote I gave up and stated to use Notes..!
Having started my Mac life with OS8 I know the value of back ups and Stickies.
