Re-running a Combo just overwrites what was written the first time it was run; it neither takes away nor adds anything, but it often resolves otherwise unaddressable issues.

I agree with you about losing functionality. Many OS X functions get changed without (well publicized) warning, and you never know about them until you trip over them...and it's already too late.
