A while back I installed EtreCheck and got the same message. (OS X 10.6.8)
After careful consideration, I trashed the utility rather than the daemon. (If Apple put it there, why fight it [Edit: if it hasn't instigated a fight]?)
I don't see any need for EtreCheck other than to aggravate myself.
The new Great Equalizer is the SEND button.
