Thanks for the input. Unless there's a software developer lurking in the FTM wings, that's not likely going to happen. Since this has been going on for years and doesn't seem to be causing any noticeable problems (other than 'clogging up' the diagnostic messages in Console), I'm just going to accept it as benign albeit annoying and move on.
