That works, but keep close track of what you do in Mavericks, because you'll need to sync it with your Snowy partition if you decide to revert.
As for your apps, any PPC apps that you're now running via Rosetta are dead in the water when you get to Mavericks, because Rosetta was discontinued as of Lion.
Another thing you may run into regarding apps is that some of them will require paid upgrades for their post-Snowy-compatible versions, but if you do your homework, you may find (as have I...also running Snowy) that the new feature sets are unnecessary.
