A bit belated, perhaps, but maybe... Have you tried booting from your OS X install disc and repairing home permissions?

Boot from your Snow Leopard DVD.
Select your language and click on the Continue button.
Wait for the installer's menubar to appear at the top of the screen.
From the Utilities menu select Reset Password.
Click on your main hard drive.
From the dropdown menu under “Select the user account” select your username.
Underneath where it says “Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs”, click the Reset button.
Quit the Reset Password utility.
Quit the Installer to restart.
