I follow that. I was just wondering what would happen if you changed that final .rtf to .docx, rather than .doc as you've described.
I do, by a "Save As", after I've modified it.
I don't know much about .rtf documents and my concern is that, if the change to .rtf loses some functionalities of a full Word document, I will have problems when I am dealing with something that is more complicated than just text.
I have lost the conversion I've always had - Word to Word - and now have a conversion to a lesser document in between.
