After doing more experimenting with removing drivers and duplicate files related to the printer installation, I ended up with a printer not functioning fully. The printer and copier parts both worked fine but the scanner did not.

The scanner would not indicate whether it was warming the scanner, although it said "processing" on the printer itself. However there was nothing on the computer screen and the software Navigator didn't open. Some words, not to be repeated here, were uttered.

As a result, I reinstalled the scanner driver and Navigator software. The long boot has gone away. Hopefully, it has left for good.
