Thanks both of you for the link. I have been through that process too, with the clone shut down, and have subsequently made a new clone from scratch. I had Super Duper restart and boot following cloning. I've used techTool to look for corrupted files and there are a few I'm about to remove....to see if that helps.

I am fairly certain I don't have any MacKeeper bits around. Also, the thing that puzzles me is, if the MacKeeper bits were going to be a problem why would they start up a year after I first removed the program?
