It turns out there are Mac key equivalents to Windows keyboard keys. The Scroll Lock key on a Windows keyboard is Control F-14 on a Mac keyboard. However, I was able to get back to normal functioning by hitting F-14 (without the Control key).
I have no idea how I could have accidentally hit Control F-14 as I don't use the numbered Function keys.
