Your paste problem should be very easy to solve. Don't just "paste" or command-V. This way, the links will be active. Go to Edit>paste special and choose "unformatted text". No links should appear as highlighted. FYI, the default in paste special is HTML format explaining why you get active links in the text. Hope this helps.
