A friend of mine in the retail banking business told me that their bank tellers call up a visiting client's file on screen, and that this file prominently includes the client's signature along with current account status etc. The signature is there to be checked, and check they do! This procedure may not apply to every single bank, but that's increasingly unlikely.

I guess the electronics age has gotten a bit past me, although I still wonder how/if the banks verify the sigs on the gazillions of checks that are processed electronically...Hal's original issue?
