I have never heard of Zoom before, but USR is a familiar brand. Any recommendation on which one might prove better (ie, more reliable, longer lived)?

Zoom Telephonics has been around for almost as long as Apple, and offered Zoom branded modems from the moment Macs could use them. Along the way they absorbed big modem names as Hayes and Global Village. I can't say much about current quality of any (stand-alone) modem maker's products, but if you've been around for so long it must amount to something...
