Sorry, ryck, but I'm out of ideas.
Why the
? I've got a
because I'm up and running again. Thanks for all your time and help
After looking at my own menu bar I realized that app related items do not (necessarily?) appear in com.apple.systemuiserver.plist, so Sophos's not being there is not unexpected.
My bad. I should have been clearer. I removed Sophos using the "Remove Sophos" tool provided with by Sophos. However, I am thinking I will pop it back in as it was only a "suspect" and may not have been the cause. No one else in the Forum has reported any Sophos problems.
Besides, removing the other suspect, CD Spin Doctor extension "CDSDAudioCaptureSupport.kext", seems to have made the most difference. I am even seeing a general improvement in the speed with which applications like Safari and Mail load.
I am going to toss out a couple of observations for any passers by, only because I am getting different results than others get and I wonder if I should be concerned.
I have wondered why, after deleting the "CDSDAudioCaptureSupport.kext" extension, why I got the information
55 0 0x354ca000 0x3000 0x2000 com.olympus.CamFWSerialBusProtocolTransport (2.0.0) <54 53 49 37 8 5 4 3 1> using Hals' command
kextstat |grep -v com.appleIt has only happened that one time. Since then, the result has consistently been:
Last login: Sat Aug 13 04:11:48 on console
douglas-ingliss-imac:~ douglasinglis$ kextstat |grep -v com.apple
Index Refs Address Size Wired Name (Version) <Linked Against>
douglas-ingliss-imac:~ douglasinglis$
I have also used dkmarsh's command
defaults read com.apple.systemuiserver and got this short result.
Last login: Sat Aug 13 04:21:19 on ttys000
user-names-imac:~ username$ defaults read com.apple.systemuiserver
{
"__NSEnableTSMDocumentWindowLevel" = 1;
}
user-names-imac:~ username$
However, when dkmarsh used the same command the result included a bunch of additional information
