+/- and R/RW aside, wouldn't Rita's DVD have worked as she was hoping for, i.e. been appendable, if she had checked the "Leave...." box when she initially burned it? (Unfortunately, she never mentioned hoping to add to the disc in her first thread, so...)

I don't have a DVD-R, but I just checked with a +R, and the "Leave...." option was present and selectable.

I've always thought that a "W" meant that a disc could be erased and reused.
