This thread is an extension of my conundrum described in this post.

Every time I've done an erase and install and migrated info from another volume, one of Setup Assistant's offerings, which I've always accepted, has been a mysterious item called "Your files and folders," which is separate from...not grouped with /Users.

Since every file and folder I create in any boot partition is located in /Users/artie I've always wondered what "Your files and folders" (mine always total less than 200k) might comprise, and I'm now wondering whether OS X somehow knows that I've modified /etc/hosts and includes it?

Does anybody know whether that may be the case, and has anybody got any idea what or what else may be included in "Your files and folders?"
