As a general rule, you shouldn't delete anything from /System/Library/Extensions unless you're 100% CERTAIN of what you're doing. I only removed those which included the software names and for which the original software no longer resides on my computer. I have now stopped any further removals. The extensions you're interested in should be in /Library/Extensions. Where do I find that folder? I assumed it meant my User Library but, on my drive, that User library does not have an Extensions folder. Sounds like you confused your paths but got it right all the same. The two paths you should have looked into are these. I wouldn't expect Users/ryck/Library/extensions to exist. Now that you've apparently culled your no longer need extensions, any of the remaining ones may be your culprit. You can quit those apps one at a time and see if your slowdowns stop in response to the quit.

Look in /Library/Extensions at the drive root but do NOT go into /System/Library/Extensions. REMINDER - items in /Library affect all users on the system
- items in ~/Library affect only the owner of that particular account
- items in /System/Library affect the OS
- kernel extenions are typicaly installed in /Library/Extenions
If we knew what it was we were doing, it wouldn't be called research, would it?

Look in /Library/Extensions at the drive root but do NOT go into /System/Library/Extensions. Thanks for that and for the list of cautions. I keep a file of "good to know" Mac tips in my Notes and your entire post just got put there.

Sounds like you confused your paths but got it right all the same. The two paths you should have looked into are these. Confirming....that's where I looked and culled. And I assume that everything you trashed was in /Library/Extensions, NOT /System... as per joemike. I didn't mention /System... as a NO-NO, because I wasn't 100% certain that apps didn't use it back in Mojave, but I figured that you'd only touch stuff whose name meant something to you.

And I assume that everything you trashed was in /Library/Extensions, NOT /System... as per joemike. That's correct. ....I figured that you'd only touch stuff whose name meant something to you. That's also correct. For me to remove an Extension I had to see a software name in the title and then I checked my drive to ensure I didn't still have the app somewhere. The ones with the arcane names....like ACS6x or ArcMSR... were left alone. There are 8 remaining extensions but I'm leaving them for now. Should the slowness return, and Safe Boot troubleshooting is the best route, I'll start a new querying thread with "Safe Boot ____" in the Title in case it becomes a good 'how to' for others wondering how best to look for issues using safe boot.
