Microsoft announced at MacWorld 2011 that Excel 2011, due to be released in Q4, will support visual basic. Many years ago, I invested a lot of time constructing Excel 4 Macros for a special purpose. I have missed them greatly during the reign of Excel 2008. I don't know anything about the relationship between Excel 4 macros and macros made by Visual Basic. Does anyone know if VB supports Excel 4 macros?

You're a little ahead of the times there, but maybe you can get an answer from this Excel forum: http://www.mrexcel.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=10&order=desc

And I hope 2011 has started well for you. wink

don't forget, an overwhelming majority of the word/excel macro virii are VB.

I have unfortunately had to deal with a macro-infected macintosh on more than one occasion. Leave it to MS to find a way to put a virus on a mac...

You might want to consider Open Office or the more Mac friendly variant, NeoOffice, both of which are free. These support Basic language macros. The version of Basic will no doubt have some differences from what Microsoft used, but should be convertible without too much grief.

Some of the early versions of NeoOffice had a very clunky user interface, but the last couple of major releases have been quite decent. I don't imagine I'll ever go back to MS Office.
