Which browser are you using? Do you have any third party plugins (Saft, for example)? What happens if you try a different browser? It would be helpful if you posted a link so that we can try to duplicate the problem.

Do you still have Quicktime 7 installed?

If we knew what it was we were doing, it wouldn't be called research, would it?

Joe/J.
I found clip, but adult one, can't post it.
.wmv file, click it and it plays perfect in firefox. Plays ok, with issues in Chrome. Does not play in Safari, just grey screen.

I did find I have QT 7 in application utilities folder.

I clicked on an old clip on my hardrive and it opened in QT 7.
Put QT 7 in trash, but the clip would not play in QT 10. grey screen.

PS, most clips on hard drive though are playing fine on QT10.

Situation: no wmv are playing well in Safari.
Play poory in Chrome
Play perfect in Firefox.
I use Safair mostly.

From hard drive most clips come up in QT10 and play fine. A couple (which now I can't find) play only in QT7

This may be a Flash problem. I had it in iCab on cnn.com (no video playing) although some other sites were OK. Checked the files that could be played with QT plugin 7.6.4 (the latest) and it did not include Flash. Not knowing how to add it (I only have QT player X) I downloaded and installed VLC browser plugin (different from VLC player but the product of the same company). All videos started playing immediately. Maybe this would help.
P.S. The QT player X does not have any plugins yet, so don't be surprised to find only 7x on your hard disk.

In order to play WMV in Safari, you need to install Flip4Mac. It is that, not QuickTime or Flash, that is responsible for WMV support on Macs.

If you can not view WMV files in Safari, my first thought would be that Flip4Mac is either broken or not installed.
