I suggest you google "remarkablesongslive" --- since what turns up for me is not pretty.

BTW, i put that full (red) url into Safari and it downloaded a 380KB file called "PLAY_MP3.exe"

The wiki explains. << tongue >> And Microsoft too: TrojanDownloader ASX/Wimad.BV

I clicked TroganDownloader ASX/Wimad.BV but it's only good for PCs unless I read it wrong.

Today I ran a virus scan through the entire system and it came up zero.
I also ran D/W and TTP which is normal.

Since you said what turns up "is not pretty" can you expand on your findings? Do I have a problem? Any suggestions?
I did trash all those wma files yesterday and downloaded (1)
wma file.

When I searched on remarkablesonglive, one of first hits was this Microsoft Malware Protection Center article citing remarkablesonglive as the source of lots of infected malware for Windows computers. Given you are on a Mac it is unlikely your machine could become infected and although I don't know what antivirus app you used the fact you got a clean bill of health is a strong indication you did not become infected.

Running Diskwarrior and TechTool Pro would do no harm but neither should be expected to detect any malware or the effects of malware in your system. Most malware these days is focused on using your computer for nefarious and illicit purposes, not on damaging your machine.

If we knew what it was we were doing, it wouldn't be called research, would it?

When I browse to here

http://www.remarkablesongslive.com/licen...XRzb25ncy53bWE7

it downloads an exe player. "WRM Header" is important. Go here and go to "wrm":

http://club.myce.com/f32/removing-drm-wmv-best-solution-108497/index4.html

Looks like those are DRM-protected MP3 files.

I used iAntiVirus software which was endorsed by Macworld so I guess it is okay.

Thanks for putting my mind at rest.

Is there a reliable software to remove DRM from such files?

I really would like to open this particular file.

That url you mention is a DOS file.

I think you right about these files being DRMs

FineTunedMac is a troubleshooting site which respects the rights of copyright holders and intellectual property laws.

In order to maintain the integrity of FTM, an answer to this question is not appropriate.

Back up everything you can't afford to lose: documents, mail, movies, music, photos, and other data and settings.

Perhaps you read me wrong... i never said your Mac was infected. But it clearly illustrates the nature and intent of these peer-to-peer places you visited.

I'd suggest you avoid P2P completely; maybe even toss Limewire in the trash to seal the deal.

Perhaps google can turn up some (legal) sources of Andrew Cruickshank audio/video materials. If they aren't free, then that might serve as a good measurement of how badly you really want them. [i doubt they'd be too expensive. (Andrew who? wink ).]

jay sent me one of the files, and it is DRM protected. I get this when I try to open it:

"Flip4Mac WMV DRM Content
Flip4Mac WMV is unable to play DRM protected content."

when I try VLC I get this:

"No suitable decoder module
VLC does not support the audio or video format "wmal". Unfortunately there is no way for you to fix this."

Songbird says: "the stream is encrypted and decryption is not supported."

so, I guess that answers that! (along with all the other stuff you guys figured out!)

Hi Dianne,
I was looking at some web sites that claim they use a legal method of removing the DRM but they were for PCs.

I'll revisit some of those sites and take a closer look.

Sorry I misunderstood you.

I really do want them but it's the only avenue I could find.

I've tried google and others but to no avail.

I wasn't aware that peer to peer downloads should be avoided.

Thanks,

Ever since the iTunes store opened, and a host of other legal sources for a/v downloads followed (Amazon?, Rhapsody?, Napster?, etc.), practically all of the stuff in P2P-land is either pirated, poisoned, or both.

Pirated copies of Apple iWork 09
Pirated copies of Photoshop CS 4

You weren't aware of those two (Mac-related) examples? [there are probably more... i just happen to recall those two specifically.]

I think it's generally understood that file “sharing” [of that sort] is a euphemism for stealing.

I don't think we know what (exact phrase) you tried, or what (exact items) you're seeking. If we knew more, then perhaps we could help. [Seems more-or-less logical that: if these items exist in the pirate-sphere, then they probably also exist in the real world somewhere.]

Point taken.

I used umpteen wordings on google to try and bring up these anthologies but nothing. I also tried youtube.

I can access Andrew Cruickshank's films and plays but not his anthologies even after emailing the BBCs archives and a Scottish library but like you say, they a do exist somewhere. Obviously by the results from limewire.

Are there any Scots out there who can help?
How about you Hal?

That shop is in the uk and has the only LP of AC and I bought it about a month ago, but it didn't have on it what I was hoping for.
It irks me to know they out there and I cannot find them.
Oh well.
Thanks for your time.

Googleing "anthologies Andrew Cruickshank" returns, among other hits, Andrew Cruickshank's Scottish Bedside Book; the vendor may be able to help you out.

This page looks like it's got at least part of what you're looking for(?), but it looks like it's not d/l'able. (Do you have the educational credentials?)

It may be the source of your DRM protected d/l's.

(Google search term: recorded andrew cruickshank)

Artie,
Sorry for the belated reply. That book site is just that...a book store.
The other one didn't give me any answers but might after extensive searching. Thanks for the lead.

Thanks for posting the question; I always get a kick out of searching for stuff that I know is out there somewhere, but where, and seeing how much new info I can squeeze out of Google with just a minor change in my search term.
