Please be more specific...maybe post a screenshot. Is that email address in your AppleID pref pane?

In system settings at the top left, is my name with Apple ID beneath. Upon clicking, my old email address appears to the right side which I wish to remove. I'm wondering what if anything, will that affect.
So, the question is, what are the possible consequences if I delete it and just how do I do that.

I phoned apple regarding that past email address and he told me to leave it alone. He said it that will be your apple ID. So I'll take his advice.

He's correct in that it doesn't matter which email address you use for your Apple ID, but it's not necessarily the wisest approach, because you only deal with your Apple ID on a very irregular basis, so you may forget the address given enough time.

On second thought, though, if the address you're using is a DEAD address, not changing it to your current WORKING address will prevent Apple from contacting you should the need arise.

PMFJI but I wanted to add my wholehearted concurrence with Artie's "second thought". You don't have to use an Apple email address (although it is free and very reliable), some use their iPhone number, but do not use a dead account, you could end up really regretting it.

You can't really forget that email in question because it is there in system settings at the top left regardless of what other item you may be looking for. Just highlight it and there it is. I can't imagine apple contacting me although I suppose it's possible.

Just be aware that if you log out, the address disappears.

Snappy comeback, but miles off the mark.
