OS 13.5.2 I don't know if this is the right place for my query. I have Wondershare 13. (2) days ago, I tried to download a song using Wondershare 13 and the following message appeared,
"Google recently updated the download API which made the download feature on this version inaccessible. To ensure uninterrupted usage, we recommend upgrading to the latest version" i.e. Wondershare 15
Question: Does Google's API invalidate my version of Wondershare or (which I suspect) that Wondershare is using it as a means of forcing me to buy version 15?
In the past, Wondershare bought iskysoft which I had been using for several years but lost it in a computer crash. I applied to Wondershare with my serial number to reinstall iSkysoft but was refused. I ended up buying the Wondershare version at that time.
THEN Wondershare allowed me to reinstall iSkysoft which I could use until very recently. Now Wondershare has rendered iSkysoft completely unusable. My friend has ISkysoft and he has no problem.
Am I correct in thinking that Wondershare could allow me to use my present version if they so chose?

Google recently updated the download API which made the download feature on this version inaccessible. - an API (Application Program Interface) is an interface between the application (Wondershare) and the service provider (Google) and consists of a request for service (download this music), specified request format, and a specified response format.
- The service provider Google has changed the API (The equivalent of changing the communication link from Hebrew to Urdu)
- Google no longer recognizes the old API.
- Wondershare relies on the Google API for a significant portion of its functionality.
- The change was caused by Google's decision to change the API — an action that happens with some frequency for a variety of reasons, typically related to security and/or financial reasons.
- Your version of Wondershare is still using the old API (still speaking Hebrew).
- Wondershare's developers have families to feed and bills to pay,
- Wondershare 15 has been rewritten to use Google's new API, so you are not left high and dry.
- You will find some alternatives here

Joe, i didn't know that Google is the service provider for Wondershare, now I understand the situation a lot more. I have filed a complaint with The Complaints Board but after reading your answer to my query, I doubt if they can do anything.
If I were to purchase Wondershare 15, could Google issue another API thereby nullifying version 15? Food for thought. I did read the alternatives, I shall have to think about them.
Thanks for your comprehensive response.

As joemikeb said above, Wondershare developers have families to feed, etc. Yes, a new API could be issued, but presumably there would be an upgrade path for Wondershare.
I don't know if it is reasonable to expect any piece of software to last forever; we can only hope that upgrades are occasionally free or reasonably priced.

Google’s decision to change their download API is no fifferent than Apple’s decision to replace macOS’ 32 bit APis with 64 bit APIs, and likely effected more third party Windows apps as well as macOS apps.
