God Bless Drive X, sent warning Mac HD space getting low. 90GB accidental screen recording. Also saw something similar happen on laptop. Is there to say/ preference not have this happen, ie, no screen recordings save over 5 gb? Have no idea what happening, I used command shift 4 to drag recordings, don't notice a screen recording happening. thanks.

command-shift-4 is used to create a partial screenshot, and as far as I can tell you can't do anything other than that while you''re in that mode. And if there's any way you can create a screen recording without launching some app or other, it's a brand new one on me.

Some clarification is needed, particularly what you mean when you say that you "used command shift 4 to drag recordings."
