Windscribe's reviews on MacUpdate are exceptional, so I'm wondering if anyone is familiar with it. There's also free version. I know next to nothing about VPNs other than that they provide more security than I've now got...or need, really, so I'll really appreciate someone's explaining Windscribe's paid v free features. Thanks.

If it seems too good to be true… Check out the review on this independent VPN review site. Windscribe is not bad, just not as good as MacUpdate reviews make it out to be. Also, it would seem there are better VPN's according to that site.
On a Mac since 1984.

I have been using nordVPN for several years and it has very good reviews. It comes out better than Windscribe in reviews

I recently ran across a blog asking if you used a VPN, Why you used a VPN, Where you used a VPN, What VPN you used, and were you satisfied with it. Unfortunately, I can't find the blog at the moment, it may have been on Quora. However, the The consensus seemed to be VPNs were used in two cases, one when in "sensitive" regions such as China and Russia to keep out of trouble with overly sensitive authorities or when using public WiFi networks (hotels, airports, Starbucks, etc. to protect sensitive proprietary information. A lot of VPN services were mentioned and the users were pretty much satisfied with all of them but no one was particularly enthusiastic about having to use a VPN. There were comments praising one protocol or another but the protocols are public and pretty much available through any of the various services.

Windscribe caught my eye because of its (unique?) free version, but in reality, I don't really need a VPN, so I'll just keep it in the back of my mind.
Is it strange that your free data allowance increases from 2 GB to 10 GB if you give them an email address? Why would they want to "buy" it?
