OS 10.14.6

Today I downloaded BlueStacks 4 but when I tried to open it, I couldn't, because it was non apple. I opened system prefs, security & privacy and clicked 'open anyway' but it wouldn't open. This I did (3) times.

Any ideas anyone?

That application will only run on non-MacOS computers at this time. The web site says a MacOS version "is coming".

You could install PC/Windows emulation software on your Mac and run it in that environment, but that could be overkill and more of a hassle than other alternatives (?).

On a Mac since 1984.
Currently: 24" M1 iMac, M2 Pro Mac mini with 27" BenQ monitor, M2 Macbook Air, MacOS 14.x; iPhones, iPods (yes, still) and iPads.

You misread the website, Ira, as I did at first glance.

It says v 5 for mac is coming, but v 4, which jaybass d/l'ed, runs on Macs.

Running 10.15.7 with "Allow apps downloaded from: Anywhere" selected...

I d/l'ed v 4, opened the .dmg, and launched the installer with no problems.

I've got no idea what your problem may be.

Also, I checked the required specs, and you're OK in that respect.

Maybe try a fresh d/l?

I phoned apple and after taking over my mac and (20) mins talking, I was advised to upgrade to catalina but even then there a question of the graphics not being adequate.

I emailed Cornell Ornithology and asked them if there is anything in the works for a straight download of their bird app. My son said something about that might be a possibility next year so I will wait for their response.

Apple did say that BlueStacks emulator seemed to be geared toward games. However...

Thanks Ira for your reply.

BlueStacks specs for Mac: System specifications for installing BlueStacks on macOS – BlueStacks Support

The resolution et. al. may be a problem for gaming, but not for your purposes.

And yeah, it is basically a gaming app, although I guess you might be able to use its Android emulator for your bird app. (Actually, I was kinda curious about your wanting a gaming app.)

Apple did say that upgrading to catalina should present no problem with downloading but I'm not sure if that would create any difficulties for me.

Did you actually open the app? There are other emulators but I'm in no hurry just now. I have uninstalled BlueStacks.

Merry Xmas.

The d/l'ed .dmg opened as a disk image containing an installer app, and I launched the installer, but I quit it at the point at which it asked me to click to install, so, not having installed the app, I couldn't actually open it.

There was really nothing to uninstall: Just quit the disk image and trash the .dmg.

And happy holidays to you, too.
