President Donald Trump's personal attorney Rudy Giuliani tells ABC News he's working as part of the president's defense team in his upcoming second impeachment trial -- and that he's prepared to argue that the president's claims of widespread voter fraud did not constitute incitement to violence because the widely-debunked claims are true.
That's SOOO twisted that even coming from Rudy, it's comical.

Just in: Giuliani has announced that he can't represent Trump, because he'll be a witness at the trial.

Giuliani: "The Donald, Mrs. Trump's lawyer is on Line One."

Finally, some (sadly, not all) QAnon fanatics have concluded that they have been had. QAnon believers struggle with inauguration.

What the heck....if one conspiracy theory doesn't pan out, just invent a new one. What I don't see in any of the Qanon ramblings is a recognition that, when Trump fled to Florida with his tail between his legs, he took about $250,000 of his followers' money. Oh, and all the dough he pocketed from selling pardons....and I'm willing to bet the wacko QAnon "Shaman" with the horns didn't get one.

I think ‘A Total Failure’: The Proud Boys Now Mock Trump is more notable, as it's more reflective of his base.

On Wednesday, the Proud Boys Telegram group welcomed President Biden to office. “At least the incoming administration is honest about their intentions,” the group wrote.

And it certainly gives Trump something to think about. He has betrayed his following and skipped town with hundreds of thousands of their dollars....and is now lounging in Florida. While he lays around the pool, large ticked-off and armed-to-the-teeth groups could be thinking about evening the score.

Now, now, that's a regression to the original title of this thread, along the lines of my having hoped for a 22-gun salute. shocked

Actually, having him around to prevent people like Pompeo and Cruz, in particular, from mounting cohesive 2024 campaigns is an appealing idea, provided, of course, that he merely muddles the mix, but doesn't run.

We'll see if he's able to run. Hopefully the impeachment trial ends with a ban on him ever holding any public office.

I"m thinking that if he's not convicted in the Senate, the possibility of his running in 2024 will stymie the ambitions of the rest of the field, so in a perverse sense, it'll be desirable.

The thought of his running is horrifying, but under any circumstances, the schism in the Republican party maaay not leave him - or his choice, if it comes to that - with enough of a base to beat a strong Democratic candidate.

Also, Trump didn't pardon himself. If he had done that, of course, that would have been an admission of guilt.

According to some constitutional experts discussing the matter on MSNBC, that is an unknown. Apparently the President does not have to divulge who he has issued pardons for and doesn't even have to do it in a formal manner. He can simply write it on a piece of paper and, as long as he has a witness, it is a valid pardon. He can just keep it "in his back pocket" and, when he needs it, pull it out. And it gets worse. He has the ability to issue corporate pardons. i.e. a president can provide certain pardon protection for companies. In both cases the pardons would only apply to federal actions and do not affect state-level actions.

Lots of people have suggested that the one benefit of Trump's tenure is that is has exposed various legislative shortcomings that need to be fixed. It seems like the pardon process is one of them.

Which is akin to his "reasoning" for not attending to transition protocols and inauguration traditions. Doing so would be admitting he was (is) The Loser of the election.

Watching CNN this morning is a breath of fresh air. Biden is not perfect - doesn't pretend to be - and he will make some mistakes along the way. Some real and some perceived as so. There is much on his plate and there is no way he could please all of the people all of the time. BUT his whole approach to leading a country is in such stark contrast to Trump and many of his Republican followers. For someone sitting on the north side of the USA/Canada border, this is a refreshing change to witness.

GREAT! Let the MAGAs go their own way and free the "Real Republicans" get back to their historical roots. Their voice is needed to maintain a political balance and keep the extreme left from becoming as destructive and destructive as the extreme right has been lately. A MAGA party, like all sects, will inevitably dissolve into squabbling sub-groups and when Trump dies (he is after all getting well along in years) they would lose the voice they coalesce around and go back to meeting at night, in the woods and, wearing pillow-cases with eye-holes to hide their faces. Who knows, I might even go back to identifying as a "Liberal Republican". 😜

That article sounds like just so much Trump bluster. Creating a new party requires having a clear vision of what it is to be and also having the management skills in terms of creating, organizing and executing. Given Trump's record as a failed business man and as the worst president in American history, it's clear that he lacks the skills. Another requirement is having the time to create the new party. With his business falling apart and various legal matters and tax investigations headed toward him, Trump will need to ask himself: "Do I spend time on my own interests or do I spend my time on a new party?" I think we know the answer.

The problem could resurface if they look around and find a new voice to "coalesce around". In congress they have two potential leaders who fill the bill - Marjorie Taylor Greene (Georgia) and Lauren Boebert (Colorado) who are both QAnon wackos and spreaders of conspiracy theories.

Neither of which have the necessary charisma to attract more than a few of the most credulous followers much less the big money sources Trump was for inexplicable reasons able to con. Besides that it looks as if Trump may be needing all of those sources himself to cover his civil and criminal legal expenses in multiple state and federal courts.

'The trial is stupid': Senate Republicans throw cold water on Trump impeachment

I suspect that they're squirming because they've seen the fallout from the House vote and are scared to death of having to commit one way or the other.

If they are uncomfortable, let them remember that conviction by the Senate requires a 2/3 vote of those present. All they have to do is not show up for the vote!
